Napa’s cheapest & Best Wineries for First timers and Budget Wine Lovers
Absolutely the Cheapest Way to Taste Wine in Napa in 2026
It’s all over the news - wine tasting in Napa has gotten super expensive with some wineries charging up to $200 to taste - per person!
That’s ridiculous. While it’s certainly fun experiencing a high end winery I bet you’ll have just as much fun, maybe more, at my top Cheap Wineries in Napa. And best yet you won’t get a Napa hangover, aka “credit card shock”, once you get home.
Stretch your budget and expand your fun with wines by the glass, two for one tastings, and wineries that still charge reasonable fees. I’ll show you how to spend $45 or less, sometimes a lot less, at each winery stop. You’ll still have a great time and even though you’re on a budget you’ll still be drinking incredible wines - this is Napa after all!
Overwhelmed? Email for free trip planning advice from the guy who actually wrote this site. Who else does that?
What’s the Priority Wine Pass (and do you need one)?
The Priority Wine Pass is an annual pass that gets you deals all over Napa and Sonoma, discounts on hotels and activities like e-bikes, mud baths and hot air balloons, and has the only discount for the Napa Wine Train. You’ll find a lot of 2 for 1 deals at big name wineries that are most likely on your wish list as well as hidden gem boutiques with incredible wines at affordable prices.
Normally $69 per couple, it’s discounted to just $39 on my site. Considering you save at least that much at your first stop it’s pretty easy to justify, even if you only use it for a couple of your stops. Still not sure? Read the TripAdvisor Reviews but buy it here - it’s cheaper!

Cakebread winery
🔥 Now get a 2 for 1!
Probably the best tour and tasting experience in Napa with “just enough” info on production and plenty of that Cakebread wine in a small group setting. Some tours are long and boring, but not this one. 45 minute total experience.
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: Mon-Thurs, 2 for 1 Classic Tour and Tasting, get 2 for $50.

caymus vineyards
Free Tasting? Well, sort of!
I didn’t believe it either but Caymus Vineyards will waive your $50 tasting fee if you spend $50 on wine. You’ll find plenty of people on Reddit claiming this isn’t true but call them yourself and see. Might be the best deal in Napa!
GET YOUR TASTING FEE WAIVED: Spend $50 and get your $50 tasting fee waived. Spend $100 and get two fees waived. And so on… wow wow wow!
GRGICH HILLS
Experience the Judgement of Paris
If you’ve seen the movie Bottle Shock (or perhaps know a bit of Napa history) the name Mike Grgich will ring a bell as the winemaker who made the winning chardonnay that beat the French. One of the few wineries that still does a “grape stomp”during harvest in the fall.
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: 15% off current releases, 10% off library wines, You can also get a half bottle of chardonnay for just $28, a nice way to experience the winery on a budget.
Hall St Helena WINERY
Is that a Wabbit?
Hall looks fancy, it feels fancy, and most of their experiences are priced fancy. But don’t despair, you can sample their cabs standing at the bar - and what a bar it is with a cool modern art vibe and great views! Experience Hall while staying on budget.
WORTH THE SPLURGE: $45 for 45 minute with their Reflections of the Valley experience.
inglenook
👍 Might be Napa’s Most Beautiful Winery
If you remember Inglenook as a jug wine it might come as a shock that they were once considered a very fine wine and today much better than many suspect. First timers must visit - it’s gorgeous.
VISIT THE BISTRO: Skip the flight and do wines by the glass, starting around $16. Small bites (though called a bistro there’s no real food). Younger guests can borrow a wooden sailboat to sail in the fountain.
laird family estate
Bring your own picnic
Wineries that allow outside food are not as easy to find as you might think due to Napa regulations but Laird Family Estates is one of them - and they have “winery bites” like cheese and charcuterie for purchase.
BY THE GLASS: A $10 glass of pinot grigio (or a whole bottle for $25) makes this a no brainer for budget Napa fans.
Mumm Napa
👍 Perfect stop at the end of the day!
With the sun setting over the vineyards there’s no better place to be than on the patio at Mumm Napa. A lively but elegant setting, a glass of bubbly, it’s the best way to cap off a day of wine tasting.
SKIP THE FLIGHT: Flights start at $48 but smart sippers go “by the glass”, priced from $15 o $25 for a full flute of sparkling.
rombauer VINEYARDS
🤑 One of Napa’s best deals!
Rombauer “invented” the buttery chardonnay and I get how that might not be for everyone but this winery setting with incredible views and tastings that start at just $25 pp makes this a “must visit”, even if you’re not on a budget.
A PICNIC WITH A VIEW: Wines by the glass or bottle to enjoy with your picnic at one of Napa’s best hidden picnic spots. This doesn’t feel like a budget winery!
st. supery
Squeeze this one in - you can do it!
One of my favorite boutiques but often bypassed because you can only do so many wineries, right? Well if time is short you can now pop in and get two pours for just $29. Every tasting doesn’t need to be a 90 experience.
MAKE EVERY MINUTE COUNT: Two pours, $29, just get in here and try it. Want more? Buy a bottle and they’ll open it for a $10 corkage fee - bottles start at $28 for a sauvignon blanc.
sutter home Winery
🤑 Sweet Wine Alert!
The winery that brought you the infamous White Zinfandel is actually quite a nice stop. OK, the wines are so-so but budget wine tasters can’t be too choosy and who knows, you might end up with a case of White Zin.
BUDGET DEAL: No more free tastings but with reservations you can do a custom flight of 3 for just $10, or walk in and select a $15 flight of either sweet, dry, or non-alcoholic wines.
Pope Valley Winery
Is this place for real?
It feels like a Time Machine took you back a hundred years at Pope Valley. Everyone looks old but the wines are very modern and top notch. It’s a drive, 15 minutes off the main road, but worth it for the adventurous.
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: 2 for 1, get two tastings for $45 plus access to their picnic area. Fair warning, you might stay here all afternoon.
CHEAPEST WINE TASTINGS IN CALISTOGA

Envy winery

What’s not to love? A winery run by Nils Venge, a Napa legend, a patio where you can sip wine with your own picnic lunch, a view of the Old Faithful geyser, does it get much better?
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: Come before noon for a 2 for 1 tasting, two for just $35. Purchase wines with a 10% discount all day, any day.
HANS FAHDEN WINERY
🔥 Caves, ponds, serene
Just outside of Calistoga but worth the drive, Hans Fahden looks a bit like a Monet painting with their ponds, bridges, wine caves, and natural setting. A hidden gem, not to be missed.
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: 2 for 1 tasting, normally $45 per person but you get two for $45, a killer deal.
Sterling Vineyards
👍 Ride the tram to the top for views
Amazing experience, first timers to Napa flock to the tram ride and for good reason - the views are stunning. Self guided tour at the top and a patio finale with beautiful views of the valley.
PRIORITY WINE PASS DEAL: Two for One experience, get two tram rides and tastings for just $55.
TEDESCHI FAMILY WINERY
Old Napa hospitality
If you think Napa has become too commercialized then you haven’t been to Tedeschi Family Winery where the hosts serving you wine have actually been involved in the wine making process.
BUDGET TASTINGS: Sample four wines for just $35 per person.
Venge Vineyards
Affordable Boutique Experience
There’s that name again, Venge! I told you, he’s everywhere. I discovered Venge wines sitting at the bar at Rutherford Grill and have been a fan ever since. Private intimate experience at affordable prices.
WORTH THE SPLURGE: You’d expect to pay lot more than $45 pp for wines and experience at this caliber.
