About Me
About Local Wally
I started writing my Local Wally websites in 1994, back when the internet was new and there was no such thing as an influencer or social media. I wanted to produce sites with honesty and integrity with the goal of helping people plan great vacations. It was never about money and still isn’t. Notice how I don’t flood your mobile with a billion ads? You’re welcome!
Growing up in the Bay Area I was a frequent visitor to Napa which was coming of age right when I turned 21. Back then wine tasting was free and there was nothing better than cruising my my Datsun with the cassette deck blasting 80’s music.
In the early 2000’s TripAdvisor launched and I wrote most of their original Napa content but was rejected as their paid editor. With rejection letter in hand I wrote NapaTouristGuide.com which become one of the most popular sites on Napa.
I offered something that no other site was doing - I collected every discount deal, every coupon, every freebie, and put them all in one place, free for the taking. And to help people figure it all out I offered free email advice. Today I’m still at it, spending hours a day responding to questions and searching for the best deals and things to do in Napa Valley. In the end TripAdvisor eclipsed me, paid influencers and AI have flooded YouTube, and everything on the internet has become rather suspect. We need Local Wally more than ever so tell your friends, share me on your social feeds, and I’ll do my part in providing honest content and personal advice to all of my readers.
Cheers,
Wally, 2026
